Demystifying Gemstones & Crystals Biblically

“For Wisdom is better than jewels; And all desirable things cannot compare with her.” —  Proverbs 8:11

Lord, give us wisdom on this topic, give us discernment. Help us to honor you in all our ways, help us to seek after Your mysteries in Your way, not our own, and touch not any unclean thing. Amen.

I highly recommend reading Part i blog first to not take this article out of context and get some helpful background on how sound/prayer is applied to objects Biblically and scientifically. These are some serious subjects to delve into in just a few blog posts, so please don’t label me a heretic for attempting to shed some Biblical and theoretical light on this subject I get asked about a lot.

Do you ever see Christians wearing Gemstones and Crystals like New Agers do? No? Sometimes? Not really? Why not? Have you ever felt drawn to a stone, or repelled by it? Do you know why? Did you know that the High Priest in the Old Testament was literally adorned with them by the order and design of God Himself? Did you know that the Bible has over 38 verses about them? And Heaven is built with them? And God made them? Then why in the world do New Agers glom onto them? Just a few of the questions I mull over in my head, as my work takes me into all the world, especially around alternative healers who wear crystals. Some I am actually pulled towards, and some repelled by like a backwards magnet! I seek to touch on this topic here, but I am just exploring the surface, and am asking the Lord to reveal the answers, so please do the same if there is anything in this article you disagree with; I am not claiming this as gospel truth or pertinent to Salvation. I am just forever curious, and love to delve into topics others won’t touch, with aid of the Holy Spirit (and some of my own conjectures).

There are even people who claim to have had Gemstones appear in thin air and land all over their houses or churches! I know a few of these people personally. Wow, if this is genuinely from Him, what a mighty God we serve! Why would He do that? If authentic, I think it is because He is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider, and He loves to give good gifts to His kids.

When I was a child, I seemed to be so drawn to rocks; I would suck on them as a toddler, collect them, notice them as jewelry, and even had a beautiful natural rock crystal formation that looked just like a unicorn (unicorns are talked about in both the Bible and rumored to be mentioned in the satanic bible also, but I am not going to go digging there for proof!), with a little crystal horn and all! Then, in the 80’s the Assembly of God church we attended was preaching on cleansing homes of anything even remotely New Age or from the “Age of Aquarius”. Dutifully, my parents got rid of their old records, smashing them in the living room, throwing out their Santa-Clauses and Mrs. Santa too. Then my collection: the cabbage patch doll, the unicorn crystal, rock collection and every other unicorn they could find, pajamas stuffed animals and all! This was very traumatic to me as a child, but I in turn did not allow any of these things into my home until a few of them more recently.

 

SO what is UP with gemstones and Crystals? Crystals AMPLIFY power and sound and act as a recorder, conductor and megaphone!

If you were to hold a tuning fork up to your ear and strike it, you could hear the sound. By resting the tuning fork ON a crystal and striking it, the sound is turned UP! I have actually seen and heard this demonstrated.

Crystals in computer and TV displays. 

Some phonographs use quartz crystals to convert vibrations of the stylus (needle) into electric impulses. For electronic use, a quartz crystal must be flawless. Most of the crystals now used in electronics are synthetic. Rock crystal is used to make lenses and prisms for optical instruments.

The way a quartz crystal benefits a circuit is that mechanically the crystal acts much like a tuning fork, with a natural resonant frequency, and the piezoelectric property allows that to be coupled into an electronic circuit.

Crystals can relay information physically on a Liquid Crystal Display monitor, like an eReader, TV, or computer monitor.  This is what LCD stands for. So how does this have a spiritual application, or even should it?

Crystals housing demons & use in the New Age 

I do not study the counterfeit, and won’t even go research it, as I do not want to open myself up to it, but there is information that I glean just from certain friends or reading testimonies of people who have been set free from occult practices, which I find the best way to learn. I find a certain amount of information helpful in leading people to the Truth from the counterfeit power of the New Age.

The role of crystals in electronics is well known and Quartz crystals are used to control the frequencies of oscillators, and as circuit elements. Since crystals are good for transmitting electronic frequencies, it may be that occultists assume that they must also be good for transmitting psychic frequencies, vibrations and healing power. The New Age now has incredible body of (likely) folk lore regarding the supposed healing and energizing powers of crystals, even attributing them to clearing and healing the “chakra energy centers”.

But I feel it goes much deeper than that, both for good and evil!

In a good article by the Christian Research Institute, (CRI) (one I both agree and disagree with), they say:  “Though we do believe in demonic energy that can work through occult practices, we see no reasonable basis to hold that crystals have inherent properties that make them especially good transmitters of demonic power.”

I disagree with this quote, based on scientific research and the occultic use of crystals and gemstones, and testimonies of those set free from the New Age, I believe they can “house” and “amplify” demons and their supposed power.

Here is an excerpt from a very good book, Betrayed by Her Guardian Angel (pg 189) that gives unique insight from someone who was set free from the occult regarding crystals she was given for “psychic energy protection”.

“Hold this stone, and tell me what you feel,” Rhonda said.

Eve took the purple stone that was offered, and closed her eyes to shut out distractions. In the hand holding the stone, she felt a slight tingling sensation. “I’m not sure what I’m feeling,” she said. “It feels like a faint vibration.”

“That’s the stone’s natural energy,” Rhonda answered. “It’s good that you can feel it. That tells me you’re very sensitive. Now give me the stone. Stand facing me, and watch.”

While Eve watched and listened, Rhonda did a ritual of sorts, calling the energy of the Spirit of the East into the stone. “In the East, the sun rises,” Rhonda intoned. “It is the direction of renewal and rebirth. The Spirit of the East draws his energy from fire. I call upon the Spirit of the East to infuse this stone with the energy of fire…”

“Now hold the stone and tell me what you feel,” she said.

Eve took the stone and closed her hand over it as before, then closed her eyes to concentrate on what she was feeling. The “slight vibration” had increased a hundred fold. “That’s amazing!” she cried. “It feels like the stone has electricity running through it!”

The author also talks in the book about other spirits being called into stones, using amethysts to “establish energy protection pyramids”, feeling them tingle, vibrate and cause electricity to run up the arm, making it almost go numb, “warming sensations”, and “cobweb sensations of negative energy”. None of this seems like a harmless piece of rock, but sounds like a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall by rejecting the cornerstone, which is Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:8 for context).

Then why did God make them?

(more revelation on this coming later, based on a glimpse the Lord gave me that I am still seeking confirmation on and permission and timing to release).

Now, what about those stones on the High Priest’s garments? Biblically, this is reflected in the vest worn by the High Priest in the Hebrew religion. According to best translations, the author of Exodus 39 states that sardius, topaz, carbuncle, emerald, sapphire, diamond, jacinth, agate, and amethyst were all embedded into this vest. The High Priest Aaron would use this chestpiece (called an ephrod) when approaching the physical manifestation of God’s glory on Earth – to offer people’s prayers to God in the Holy of Holies, beyond the veil. What physical and spiritual properties were imbued in these crystals and rocks, if any? This vest carried spirtual symbolism, was used for Divine guidance, (Ummin and Thummim), and possibly even as a bridge between Heaven and earth realms in meeting God beyond the veil (more on that later).

The gemstones listed as part of the priest’s breastplate are similar (or same?) to the 12 stones that the Bible describes in the Book of Revelation as comprising the 12 gates to the wall of the holy city that God will create at the end of the world, when God makes a “new heaven” and a “new earth.” And, because of the translation issues of precisely identifying the exact breastplate stones, the list of stones may be entirely the same.

Different Bible scholars have speculated, and ultimately, it’s not that important, because they have been replaced by a Solid Rock on Whom we stand: Jesus. (3)”  

Jesus is our living Stone, and we, in Christ, are also living stones! (1 Peter 2:4-8) We, as extensions of the apostles to go into all the world, are the rock upon which Jesus has built His church. We are the temple of the Most High God, his dwelling place. We do not want to be, or pay tribute to, the dwelling place of demons!

“As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

SO, What NOT to do with Crystals, Rocks and Gemstones: 

DO not treat them as good luck charms, omens, a talisman, or ascribe to them power, honor, healing properties, “fortune cookie” meanings, or “energies”. God is our healer, period.

DO not carve or buy a graven idol image made of rock, stone, crystal, wood, glass, ect. This includes totem souvenirs from Africa, Alsaka or Hawaii!  (The unicorn-shaped crystal, although naturally formed, may have been considered a graven image, by the Lord, I do not know! If in doubt, don’t, just don’t!).  Graven idols and idol worship (even in yoga) is serious business to the Lord and should be given a complete ‘hands off’ approach!

“You shall have no other gods before Me. “You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. “You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me.” Exodus 20: 3-5

So what can we do with gemstones, crystals, and rocks?

Remember to never take my word for anything, but go directly to God and to the Word first and foremost!

One option is to just leave them alone if you have any fear, discernment, or reticence about what is good and right and what is not. One person may have permission from God to wear a certain pendent, and the next may not! There should not be any fear or condemnation around them, however, just obedience.

Worship the Creator, not the creation. Glorify God that He is creative, loves beauty, and made them. Thank Him for them as a gift from above, and recognize that they are symbolic in Heaven and on earth as adornments in crowns, rewards, used on priestly garments, and can be a symbol of marriage covenant on earth. But recognize that it is the fruits of the spirit which are the real gems in the Kingdom, and gold is merely paver stones. We are to cast our crowns before Him and trade everything for intimacy and relationship with Him!

According to CRI, “Demonic energy can work through people’s belief in magical objects.” So do not put any faith in them! Trust in God alone.

Want to buy crystals, precious stone jewelry, or keep ones you may have? I would just burn any that have been used in anything occult-like. Did they just come straight from the rock shop but could have been cursed? Cleanse them from any sin or power that may be attached, covering them in the Blood of Jesus, dedicate them to the Lord, thanking Him for His creation, and then anoint them for His purposes and Glory. Let them serve as a reminder to ascribe all Glory to His name. The power of the Holy Spirit does not need any amplification from a crystal, like the enemy tries. God has given me peace about cleansing and dedicating certain things, like my used wedding ring, and keeping them. Ask Him about any items in question. Anoint the object with oil (see part i) and pray over it:

“Lord, we come boldly into your courts with Praise and petition the Throne of Grace.  Lord forgive us for touching any unclean thing, and we renounce in the name of Jesus, any involvement with the occult, or idolatry, or witchcraft, or the New Age. I declare that this object spiritually transitioned into your secret place and now abides under your shadow. I repent on behalf of every sin committed with this object (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). I plead the blood of Jesus over this (jewelry, rock, crystal, ect) and command in the name of Jesus any attachments to it to leave and go. I now speak to every spirit that has taken up habitation in this dwelling place and I take authority over you according to my authority in Jesus Christ. I cast you out, and command you to go to where the Lord Jesus sends you. We anoint this object in the name of the Lord, by faith, and consecrate it to you, inscribing on it the names of your people, your dwelling place. May it serve as a symbol that we are living stones, and we give all honor, and praise, and glory, to the One who made it. Thank you for it’s beauty, in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

I hope this sheds some light on how Christians should not be messing around with stones as omens or good luck charms, healing cards regarding stones, giving them credit for healing powers, or energies, chakra alignment, or especially not invoking spirits into them! Just the other day, a Christian business coach was giving out stones with healing property cards, and I just shake my head. “Forgive us Lord, for we often know not what we do.” Hopefully now you do know, and will not be afraid, but be shrewd, innocent, and discerning! You are a Daughter/Son of the King of the Universe, and heirs with Christ, so take authority and go forth!
